So as it came, it went. The
Third week of the Viola da Gamba included in the
Sevilla Early Music Festival finished a week ago (the festival itself finishes today if I am not mistaken).
It took place in the convento de Santa Clara (amazing place, with some restored wall paintings massive tile work, and very nice painted wooden beams). The viol exhibition was located at the refectory, where the nuns used to have dinner. On the long tables there where
Viols of Sundrie Kindes (around 35 of them) and several Fine Bows.
But alas!, few people visiting the exhibition (mostly the people there was touring the newelly restored convent).
Where were the 70 or so Gamba students from Sevilla? Even some of the gamba teachers had no idea there was an exhibition).
Anyway, we have to thank the players teaching at the Master Classes that came to test the instruments, Ventura Rico, Fahmi and Rami Alqhai, Sergi Casademunt, Juan Manuel Quintana,
Leonardo Luckert, and specially Nima Ben David, who spent almost a whole day playing the viols at the exhibition until she finished exhausted.
Oh, and I almost forget that exceptional viol player and better person who came from the cold northern europe seeking the andalusian warm sun, that spent many hours playing and trying instruments and bows, waiting for the rain to stop! Thanks to her we had the oportunity to hear all the viols with a relative calm.

FeMAS (o menos?). Hace unos siete días acabó la III Semana de La Viola Da Gamba. Una exposición en un sitio privilegiado, El convento de Santa Clara. Más de 35 vigüelas de arco en la muestra y otros tantos arquillos, un verdadero lujo.
Eso sí, la asistencia de publico, más bien escasa por no decir nula. La gente que apareció por allí, iba como parte de la visita al recién restaurado convento y no precisamente a ver aquellos "instrumentos tan bonitos". Dónde estaban los cerca de 70 alumnos de Viola de Gamba que hay en Sevilla??? Mira que era una excelente oportunidad de ver y probar el más variado muestrario de instrumentos (en modelos y diferentes miembros de la familia...) y arcos. Ntsch!.
Hay que agradecer la presencia de los intérpretes de viola que impartieron sus masterclases y pasaron por el refectorio a sonar los instrumentos. Ventura Rico, Fahmi and Rami Alqhai ("tócate esa de Airon Maiden" y empieza a tocar Black Sabbath I am Iron Man!, que con acento Sevillano suena muy parecido a Iron Maiden), Sergi Casademunt, Juan Manuel Quintana, Leonardo Luckert, y en especial a Nima Ben David, que se pegó casi un día completo tocando las diferentes violas de la muestra hasta acabar agotada.
Ah!, y sin olvidarnos de esa gran violista y mejor persona que huyendo del frío del norte de Europa acabó en Sevilla, probando todas las violas de la muestra durante una semana mientras esperaba que parara la lluvia. Algo que agradecimos profundamente pues pudimos oír los instrumentos con un poco de calma.
Y sí, el alma...el alma no es más que un palo!
